Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls gives girls the tools they need to achieve their education and career goals, empowering them to break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. We teach them that they can take charge of their own future and overcome obstacles to achieve their educational dreams.
Although all girls face barriers because of their gender, we prioritize working with girls who have additional obstacles including poverty, unstable home lives, living in foster care, or teen motherhood. We work in partnership with girls in small groups or a conference setting to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful.

Last year, Soroptimist Saskatoon distributed more than $18000 in education awards to eleven women in Saskatoon and surrounding area.
Over half of Live Your Dream Awards recipients world wide are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking or sexual assault. Nearly all of the women and families we serve have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, teen pregnancy, and drug or alcohol addiction. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education or training.
Since 1972, Soroptimist clubs have distributed over $41 million in education awards to 41,000 women around the world, making a better life for themselves and their families.
We invest in women's education because it transforms lives and communities. The Live Your Dream Awards has been recognized for its effectiveness and long-term impact.

Soroptimist Saskatoon spearheaded the “No Barriers. Period.” initiative, a program dedicated to providing free period products at Saskatoon’s downtown public library. Recognizing the importance of menstrual equity and accessibility, the program has recently expanded to all public library locations in Saskatoon, ensuring that community members have barrier-free access to essential hygiene products.
The Soroptimist Leadership Institute (SLI) is designed to teach leadership concepts to women.
If you are accepted into the program, you will become a sponsored member of the Saskatoon Soroptimist club.
As a member, you’ll benefit from attending meetings and leadership workshops. You’ll also participate in the work of our volunteer committees with the club.
As an SLI intern, you’ll be invited to attend workshops on topics designed to help you become a respected leader within your community, including but not limited to:
Aspects of improving your personal strengths
Developing leadership and organizational skills, and
Understanding your personal goals and passions.
The Cooking with Confidence program is hosted by Soroptimist Saskatoon in partnership with Hope Restored Canada, providing free cooking classes to women who have experienced trafficking and are starting over. The program equips participants with valuable skills while offering a source of community and ongoing support, helping them build confidence and take steps toward independence.
Through Friendship Links, we build connections with Soroptimists around the world, exchanging ideas, offering support, and amplifying one another’s efforts. These relationships strengthen our shared mission of improving the lives of women and girls locally and globally. We have two Friendship clubs - SI of Griffiths (Australia) and SI of Kampala in Uganda.
International Projects
Our impact extends beyond borders. By contributing to international Soroptimist projects, we help provide education, resources, and opportunities to women and girls worldwide. Whether it’s supporting initiatives for gender equality, access to education, or economic empowerment, our work ensures that women everywhere have the chance to thrive.
SI Saskatoon recently donated $3000 to help with school costs for girls in Kampala Uganda through our link with SI Kampala. "This will make a lifetime of difference in the lives of these young women. The support we received from your club is a sign of the bond we hold as Soroptimist sisters." Mary SI Kampala
Community Partnerships
We’re proud to partner with Interval House and Adele House to provide meaningful support for women and children. We opportunities that nurture connection, provide comfort, and help create moments of joy in safe, supportive spaces.
In partnership with Joan McDonald, Soroptimist Saskatoon assisting in advocating for domestic violence education to become mandatory in Saskatchewan workplace training. Joan’s daughter, Abbie Speir, was tragically killed in April 2017 as a result of domestic homicide. Joan’s presentation includes facts, definitions, statistics, and risk factors, along with the costs associated with domestic abuse and resources for victims, survivors, perpetrators, and their families.
Her goal is to raise awareness and ensure others are better informed than her own family was. To help spread this critical message, we hosted a luncheon in 2024 with Joan as our guest speaker, where she shared how domestic violence impacts individuals, families, and workplaces. Each year in Canada, domestic violence contributes to an estimated $487 million in lost wages—and Saskatchewan’s reported domestic abuse rate is more than double the national average. This initiative calls on business owners, employees, and community leaders to take action and make education on domestic violence a priority.
We will host a luncheon once again in 2025 in conjunction with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
In December of 2024, we launched our first-ever Santa Sack initiative under the #SoroptimistsUpliftHER campaign. With incredible support from our donors, we collected essential items and thoughtful gifts to create care packages for women at Interval House, Adele House, Hope Restored Canada, and Central Urban Métis Federation Inc. Together, we spread hope and holiday cheer to women in need of our community’s support.
